The consumption of energy originating from renewable sources has increased to 13% of the total used in 2011 in the European Union, according to the latest data published today by the EC statistical office, Eurostat. Despite the recent government cuts to incentives for renewable energy production, the proportion of energy consumed from clean sources in Spain in 2011 lies within the European average, reaching a total of 15%. However, this is still a long way off from the 47% of Sweden, or the percentages in Estonia, Finland and Austria which were higher than 30%.
